This is a quick Photoshop sketch showing my remix of Vermeer’s painting, “Girl with a Red Hat” using Snoop Dogg as the revitalized subject of the painting. It will be painted using oils on wood panel in the exact same size as the original. It will be created using the techniques that Vermeer used (warm ground, underpainting, glazing, similar brush work, etc) and will be a commentary on our present societal obsessions with money and fame, while at the same time, still adhering to the original purposes of portraiture in Vermeer’s day - as symbols of wealth and power. Another reason for this remix is to show how this hat truly needs to be rocked.
